Goals for 2012

I learned early in my life that it is very important for a person to set themselves goals. A goal or objective is a desired result an animal or a system envisions, plans and commits to achieve. They are much easier said than done.

You have to set the right goals. They have to be achievable, I’ve heard others say that good will come of attempting even unachievable goals and to some degree that’s true but we need to achieve our goals so we can set more of them beyond the here and now. Having just turned 30 and being rather out of shape setting myself the goal of playing for Barcelona is not impossible but it is highly unlikely, I could strive for that goal and gain some fitness but ultimately I’d be disappointed.

Equally a goal has to be suitably challenging, there is no point setting a goal you know you can achieve with little effort. It has to be meaningful. In secondary school I just wanted to pass my exams so that was all I ended up doing, just passing. If I’d of striven to get A’s I would and could have achieved them.

With that reminder about the importance of goals and the right type of goals. Mine for 2012 are:

Improve health & fitness. I’ve been gradually doing this since Aug 2011 but towards the end I let it all go again. I’m not super unfit but I could definitely stand to lose some weight and eat more healthily. I believe now that I have turned 30 I have a 2 year window to get this right and make it a life style or the ship will not be for turning in the future.

Make a product – Until this year I’ve been working freelance and I love it. It’s difficult work and stressful but in general I’m doing something I love everyday with talented, kind and friendly people. So it’s not that I want to stop doing that but I do want to make something that people use or purchase from me and not just sell my time and skills. I’d like to make something that earns me a passive income and helps people in someway. I have some ideas that I’m actually going to implement.
